Summer Camp

Summer Program

Imagine a summer camp that features sports, art and crafts, culture, and cooking!  Children ages 5 to 12 are welcome.

Summer Camp 2006

Week 1   June 19th    — June 23rd     Bon Appetit

A five day gastronomical adventure.

Acquire the skills that transform amateur cooks into accomplished kid chefs.  Spend the week learning to make delicious smoothies, healthy appetizers, gourmet lunches and kid crazy desserts!  This creatively, culinary week ends with a Chef’s Party featuring a skilled pizza maker who shares her talents and toppings with our super chef kids.

Week 2   June 26th    — June 30th     Abracadabra

Learn to perform your own mystifying, mesmerizing feats!!  Learn captivating card tricks, make things disappear, master the art of illusion.  Props and instructions will have you pulling a rabbit out of a hat in no time.  A professional magician will teach you some of his secrets then dazzle you with a show of those secrets kept.

Week 3   July 3th    — July 7th     Mad Science

Unleash the power of science.  Make oozing space slime, watch colorful crystals transform into underwater stalagmites right before your eyes.  Stir-up some fun with kitchen chemistry using everyday household items to grow crystals and make invisible ink.  These playful experiments will educate and entertain future scientists with a need to know.  This week wraps up with a visit from a really Mad Scientist whose experiments are guaranteed to educate, delight and excite!!

Week 4   July 10th    — July 14th    Crime Scene Investigation

Uncover a detective’s best secrets as you learn forensics.  The basic techniques known to all criminologists are revealed in this exciting week.  Learn how to dust for prints, decipher codes and sharpen your observational skills.  Student detectives will sharpen their deductive, mathematical reasoning skills as they follow clues and suspects while “on the case”.  Participants will be amazed as real life investigators visit them to demonstrate the equipment and knowledge that it takes to outwit today’s criminals.

Week 5   July 17th    — July 21st    Reptiles

Fabulous Fangs!!

Do slimy, slithering, hissing creatures amaze you??  Then you are sure to enjoy Snake Week here at Beacon Academy.  Learn about these cold blooded creatures — their environments, diets and which species are poisonous.  Observe and interact with a snake specialist and many of his live snakes.

Week 6   July 24th    — July 28th    Oceans

Catch the wave!!

Go beyond the beach and below the waves and you will discover some of the most rich and diverse forms of life on Earth—our Jewels of the Sea.  The oceans cover about 70% of the Earth’s surface.  Learn cool, wet facts about our oceans and those who call it home.  The New Jersey Aquarium will join us here at Beacon Academy to present Oceans ‘n Motion and the interactive Beach Detectives.

Week 7   July 31st    — August 4th    Crafts

Make it and take it.

Join us for a week of fun, creative art projects.  There will be something to please everyone.  So, roll up your sleeves and unleash the artist within!!!

Week 8   August  7th    — August 11th    Insects

Bug Off!!

Insects, they’re everywhere!  They inhabit all the continents, roam your backyard, and are even in the spaces between the walls of your home.  Learn which insects are the largest, which are the smallest, and which have the deadliest bite.  A visit from The Bug Lady and her miniature marvels will introduce you to the amazing world of insects.

Week 9   August  14th    — August 18th   Dinosaurs

Calling all budding Paleontologist!!

Learn about the time when huge dinosaurs roamed the Earth.  Participate in a dinosaur dig like a real Paleontologist.  Chisel away and excavate the “remains” of these pre-historic giants.  Learn hundreds of dino facts and historical findings.  This is one week that a budding scientist will “really dig”.

Week 10   August  21st    — August 25th   Safety

Safety first.

Visitors from the Police Department, Fire Department, and 911 Education Program will educate our students on safety in the home and car.  Students will be fingerprinted, and learn about water safety, home phone safety, and safety on the internet.

Week 11   August  28th    — September 1st   Carnival

Oh the fun we will have.

Students will spend this last week of summer having some good, old fashioned fun.  Water balloon toss, great summer movies, video games, board games, crafts, and many fun themed days.  This week ends with a fabulous Carnival Day including old fashioned game booths, a water slide and lots more fun activities!!
